Congratulations to the CSL's own Hollywood United!

The fourth annual Galaxy Clásico Soccer Tournament was held in San Bernardino this past weekend with Hollywood United coming out on top as the big winners. Hollywood United won the Men's Open Division and the $5,000 cash prize that goes along with doing so, defeating the 2005 and 2006 Clasico champion Columbus Crew 4-3 on penalties after playing to a 1-1 draw in regulation.

There has been a lot of talk about expanding the services of the Coast Soccer League to offer an over 35 men's division.  Now is your chance to get a reservation for your team. 

Some of the items we are considering is allowing free movement of players between an O35 team and a Prem/Maj/1st division team.  Also, we are looking into holding these games at one location each Sunday.

Following this month’s string of devastating wildfires in Southern California, the LA Galaxy, Hollywood United F.C. and the Herbalife Family Foundation have joined together to host a special charity match. The Galaxy and Hollywood United will play at The Home Depot Center on the campus of California State University - Dominguez Hills at 5 p.m. on Sunday, November 4. All proceeds from the match, including donations collected on the day of the game, will go to the American Red Cross and The Salvation Army to aid in their efforts to assist those affected by the wildfires.

The CSL would like to welcome the following new teams:  South County Reserves, Real FC, Garden Grove Gunners, Fountain Valley United and Arsenal FC, all will be competing in the First Division.  The league also welcomes Hollywood United who have merged with Doxa Italia.

The CSL also welcomes the LA Blues as our guest team to compete in this years Raul Briones League Cup.  The LA Blues are a soccer power in Southern California and will give the CSL teams a run for their money in the Cup.

Speaking of money, the CSL is excited to announce that there will be a $500 prize to the winning team of the Raul Briones League Cup.

A couple new features on the CSL website - you can now view your entire schedule (League and Cup games) on your teams home page.  You can also report your scores online with the help of survey monkey!

Congratulations to the CSL league champions of 2006-07

Premier Division regular season Champs - PSA Elite
A first year team coming in to win is a great feat and a very difficult thing to do.

Major Division regular season Champs - Beach SC
Coming down from the Premier Division last season thay pulled it off in the final game of the season in a very competitive Major Division campaign.  This was probably the closest spread of points in the history of this division.

First Division regular season Champs - South County FC
They dominated the First Division easily with the best goal differential and the fewest goals against in the CSL.  Look for them to make a challenge for the Major Division title next year!

 

Teams interested in entering the CSL Summer League need to contact Art Briones at 714-892-8220
Dates:  Summer League will run approx. from June 24 until August 26.
Cost:  The cost will be approx. $150 per team and $62 per team per game for referees.
Teams:  There will be no player ID cards and no team standings.
New Teams:  Any new teams that wish to join the CSL regular season in September will need to first enter the CSL Summer Season.

With about 150-200 people watching, United FC went down 3-0 by halftime.  Artesia DES scored 3 beautiful goals, then UFC came back with 3 goals in the second half (the last coming with about 5 minutes left in the game) to tie it up.  The score stayed 3-3 after the first 15 minute OT period.  Then UFC scored twice in the 2nd OT to win it 5-3!

Just a helpful reminder, in case of rain or inclement weather leading up to the weekend (Friday night or later).  The steps to follow are this.  If you are the home team and you field is going to be closed please call the CSL phone 714-892-3653.  If you are an away team call in to the league phone before your game and it will state whether you game is on or not.  IF YOU ARE NOT SURE IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO SHOW UP TO THE FIELD.  Never assume a game is rained out.  You don’t want to have to face a forfeit because you thought the field would be closed.
